Join the Morecambe Bay Foodbank Volunteer Team!

We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis.

We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat
poverty and hunger across the UK. This Spring, we have a number of vacancies for volunteers to join our team.

To meet our purpose, we need your commitment to volunteer on a regular basis, and at least four hours a week (Our Foodbank is open Tuesdays and Fridays, Our Uniform Project Mondays and Wednesdays)

Volunteer Drivers (Mondays/ Tuesdays/ Fridays)

We need Volunteer Drivers to help us collect and move food from our donors and around our food
depots.

The Role involves

  • Driving our Foodbank vans between donors, suppliers and our depots
  • Collecting stock from donors including supermarkets and food retailers
  • Loading and unloading stock
  • Moving and disposal of recycling and rubbish

What we need from you

  • A full driving license and
  • Be physically fit and able to load and move bulky items such as crates and boxes up to 20kg
  • A pleasant manner and the ability to communicate effectively with donors, suppliers, volunteers and guests
  • A good knowledge of health and safety and safe working
  • A willingness to undertake training on an ongoing basis

Volunteer Warehouse People (Tuesdays/ Fridays)

We need Volunteers in our Warehouses to help collect, sort and pick food donations to get them out to
families in crisis.
The Role involves (Volunteers do not have to undertake all aspects of this role, and can choose to focus on one or two areas)

  • Loading and unloading stock at our depots in the West End of Morecambe and White Lund
  • The sorting, dating and moving of stock around in line with our warehouse stock management systems
  • The picking and packing of food parcels
  •  The distribution of parcels to our clients during our food collection sessions

What we need from you

  • Be physically fit and able to load and move bulky items such as crates and boxes up to 20kg
  • A pleasant manner and the ability to communicate effectively with donors, suppliers and volunteers and guests
  • A good knowledge of health and safety and safe working
  • A willingness to undertake training on an ongoing basis

 

Volunteer – The Uniform Project (Mondays/ Wednesdays)

Morecambe Bay Foodbank has been providing food to people in crisis in the area for over seven years and we have increasingly seen a demand for school uniforms from families who cannot afford them.  The Uniform Project collects new and gently used uniforms from around Morecambe Bay and distributes them to people who need them using the same voucher system that we use for food.

We need Volunteers to help us collect and move food from our donors and around our food depots.
This role involves:

  • The and collection of clothing donations from a range of donors and sources
  • The organisation and sorting of clothing, arranging cleaning of clothes with our partner organisations
  • Preparation and distribution of clothing parcels

What we need from you:

  • Be able to travel to a range of Foodbank depots around Lancaster and Morecambe
  • Good organisation skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • A pleasant manner and the ability to communicate effectively with donors, suppliers, volunteers and guests
  • A willingness to undertake training on an ongoing basis

Cleaner (Flexible Hours)

We need people to help us keep The Foodbank ‘spick and span’
This role involves

  • Ensuring that key areas of the Foodbank are clean and tidy
  • Managing cold storage areas (refrigerators) to maintain fresh stock and ensure food safety

What we need from you

  • Good organisation skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
