David Morris MP visited the Morecambe Bay Foodbank on Friday 8th December to speak with Foodbank Manager Annette Smith and trustees Joanna Young and Helen Greatorex, who is also the chief officer of the North Lancashire Citizens Advice Bureau.
We showed Mr Morris around the Foodbank and explained how our donations come to us, how we weigh and date food, store it and then prepare the different food boxes to go out to people who need it.
We had a long discussion about the impact that Universal Credit is having on our clients and how there has been a big rise in people needing our help recently. Mr Morris listened to our concerns and we will be working with the CAB to provide robust statistical data to him about how many clients are using our service as a direct result of the delays that people are having to wait until they receive Universal Credit.
We thank David Morris for taking the time to visit and engage with us and we’ll keep up the conversation so that we can provide clear information about the situation on the ground here in Morecambe.
